POGOVORI O SODOBNI FOTOGRAFIJI
23. oktober – 24. oktober 2008; Sejna soba M3, Cankarjev dom Ljubljana

Poleg razstav festival Mesec Fotografije tudi v letošnji ediciji ponuja živahen spremljevalni program. Pogovori o sodobni fotografiji predstavljajo v tem kontekstu stalnega sopotnika festivala; gre za forum, ki je namenjen predstavitvam, srečevanju in izmenjavi mnenj o stanju na področju sodobne fotografije.
Letos Pogovore uvaja poglavje »Razvoj v polju sodobne avtorske fotografije v regiji Srednje in JV Evrope«, kjer bomo s sogovorniki predstavili in predebatirali različne poglede na razvoj podpore fotografski umetnosti zlasti v javnem sektorju v tej regiji. Drugi del Pogovorov bo namenjen »pogovoru z avtorji in kustosi razstav«, predstavljenih na festivalu, zlasti tistimi, ki so del uradne selekcije festivala, razstave Photonični trenutki / Photonic Moments.
Festivalski forum ohranja poglavje »Fotografija in založništvo«, kjer se bomo ukvarjali s splošnimi vprašanji fotografskega založništva s poudarkom na sodobni in umetniški fotografiji. Sodelujejo založniki, uredniki in predstavniki revij, predstavljene bodo različne fotografske revije in aktualne publikacije. Forum zaključuje pogovor na temo »Fotografsko izobraževanje«, kjer opažamo v regiji Jugovzhodne Evrope podoben manko kot na področju institucionalne podpore fotografiji. Med drugim bo predstavljena Višja šola za fotografijo, ki je začela z delovanjem z letošnjim šolskim letom.

POGOVORI O SODOBNI FOTOGRAFIJI, Cankarjev dom, Sejna soba M3

V okviru festivala Mesec Fotografije 08 se bodo v dveh dneh po odprtju zgodili tradicionalni Pogovori o sodobni fotografiji, ki bodo združili poglede in mnenja različnih strokovnjakov in ustvarjalcev iz regije jugovzhodne Evrope na to temo. Načete bodo naslednje tematike:

A) Razvoj v polju sodobne avtorske fotografije v regiji Srednje in JV Evrope
V prvem delu četrtkovega programa bodo sodelovali predstavniki različnih organizacij, ki v svoj program ali dejavnost v veliki meri vključujejo tudi sodobno fotografijo. Predstavljene bodo izkušnje kolegov iz bližnjih držav, obenem pa bomo izpostavili možnosti, ki se na institucionalnem področju ponujajo v Sloveniji.

Jan Sipocz – direktor zavoda Photoport iz Bratislave, Slovaška. Organizacija povezuje predvsem mlajše avtorje, kustose in pisce, ki delujejo na področju sodobne fotografije na Slovaškem.

Gulsen Bal – vodja centra za sodobno umetnost Open Space na Dunaju. Predstavila bo svojo pozicijo znotraj širšega področja sodobne umetnosti s poudarkom na statusu avtorjev iz margine Evrope.

Alessio Curto – direktor festivala Triestefotografia in zavoda Juliet. Z njim se bomo pogovarjali predvsem o festivalu in o sodobni italijanski fotografiji; njegov izbor avtorjev bo novembra na ogled v Jakopičevi galeriji!

Želimir Koščević – od 1980 do 2004 je bil višji kustos v Muzeju suvremene umjetnosti v Zagrebu. Zdaj je programski vodja Foto Galerije Lang v Samoboru. Eden od začetnikov raziskovanja na področju umetniške fotografije v regiji.

B) Pogovori s kustosi in umetniki razstav
Drugi del četrtkovega programa bodo zaznamovali pogovori z umetniki in kustosi, ki delujejo v polju sodobne avtorske fotografije in sodelujejo na mednarodni skupinski razstavi Photonic Moments v Cankarjevem domu. Gostje festivala, umetniki in selektorji iz različnih držav regije bodo predstavili svoje dejavnosti skozi odprt pogovor. Povzete bodo njihove specifike, avtorski pristopi in pogledi na vehementni razvoj avtorske fotografije v zadnjih letih in njeni uveljavitvi v polju sodobnih likovnih umetnosti.

Udeleženci:
Sandra Vitaljić – selektorica hrvaškega dela skupinske razstave Photonic Moments, kustosinja, umetnica in docentka na oddelku za fotografijo Akademije za dramske umetnosti v Zagrebu, bo spregovorila o omenjenih segmentih svojega dela, kuratorskih, ustvarjalnih in pedagoških pristopih v polju avtorske fotografije.

Gulsen Bal – selektorica turškega dela skupinske razstave Photonic Moments, kustosinja, umetnica in teoretičarka, vodja centra za sodobno umetnost Open Space na Dunaju, bo predstavila svojo pozicijo znotraj sveta umetnosti na vseh treh frontah in nanizala specifike delovanja v Avstriji in Turčiji.

Alexander Valchev – umetnik iz Bolgarije, zmagovalec lanskoletne nagrade razstave Photonic Moments, ki jo omogoča partner festivala Culural City Network iz Graza, ravnokar zaključuje enomesečno rezidenčno bivanje v Grazu, okronano s samostojno razstavo v Galerie Centrum Graz. Predstavil bo svoje avtorsko delovanje in pot v mednarodno umetniško sfero.

Angelos Gavrias – sodelujoči umetnik letošnje skupinske razstave Photonic Moments bo predstavil svoje aktualno delovanje v polju sodobne likovne umetnosti in fotografije ter svojo razpetost med nemški in grški kulturni prostor.

Katarina Radović – sodelujoča umetnica letošnjega izbora skupinske razstave Photonic Moments bo predstavila svoje izrazito mednarodno orientirano delovanje, avtorske pristope in situacijo na tem področju v Srbiji.

TALKS ON CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY

In addition to exhibitions, also this year’s edition of Month of Photography Festival offers various related events. Within this context, the Talks on Contemporary Photography is a constant companion of the festival; a forum aimed at presentations, meetings and exchange of views on the state of contemporary photography. 2008 Talks will begin with the Development in the Field of Contemporary Art Photography in the Region of Central and Southeast Europe section, aimed at presentation and discussion on various views of the advancement of support to photographic art, in particular by the public sector. Second part will encompass Talks with Exhibitions’ Artists and Curators presented at the festival, in particular those who make part of the official selection, the Photonic Moments exhibition.
The festival’s forum keeps the Photography and Publishing section, addressing the general issues of photography publishing, with the emphasis on the contemporary and art photography. With the participation of publishers, editors and representatives of the regions, various photo magazines and topic publications will be presented. The final subject of Talks will deal with the issue of Photography Education where within the region of Southeast Europe, a shortage similar to that in the filed of institutional support has been observed. In addition to others, the High School of Photography, which started its curriculum this school year, will be presented.

In the frames of the Month of Photography 08 festival in two days after opening traditional Talks on Contemporary Photography will take place. It will unite views and opinions on this topic by different experts and artists from the Southeastern European region. Following topics will be broached to subject.

A) Development in the Field of Contemporary Art Photography in the Region of Central and Southeast Europe
In the first part of Thursday’s program representatives of various organizations with contemporary photography program and activities included in its programs will be presented. Experiences of the colleagues from close countries will be introduced and at the same time possibilities appearing on the institutional level in Slovenia will be exposed.

Jan Sipocz (Slovakia) – director of Photoport Association from Bratislava. Organization above all connects younger artists, curators and writers, working in the field of contemporary photography in Slovakia.

Gulsen Bal (Turkey) – program director at Open Space center for contemporary art in Vienna. She will present her position within the broader sphere of contemporary art with emphasize on status of artists from the European margins.

Alessio Curto (Italy) – director of Triestefotografia Festival and Juliet Association. With him the talks about the festival and Italian contemporary photography will be taking place, his selection of the artists will be on show in Jakopič Gallery in Ljubljana in November.

Želimir Koščević (Croatia) – from 1980 to 2004 he was superior curator at the Museum of contemporary art in Zagreb. Now he is program director of photo gallery Lang in Samobor. He is one of the pioneer researchers on the field of art photography in the region.

B) Talks with Exhibitions’ Artists and Curators

Second part of Thursday’s program will be dedicated to talks with curators and artists, active in the field of contemporary photography and collaborating on the international group exhibition Photonic Moments in Cankarjev dom. Guests of the festival, artists and curators from different countries of the region of South-eastern Europe will present their activities through the informal, open conversation with moderator and audience. Their specifics, artistic approaches, views on vehement development of so called fine art photography in last years and its enforcement in the field of contemporary art practices will be summarized.

Participants:
Sandra Vitaljić (Croatia) – selector for Croatian part at group exhibition Photonic Moments, curator, artist and senior university teacher at department for photography at Academy for Theater in Zagreb, will speak about mentioned aspects of her work, curatorial, artistic and pedagogical approaches in the field of contemporary photography.

Gulsen Bal (Turkey) – selector for Turkish part at group exhibition Photonic Moments, curator, artist, theoretician, program director of Open space center for contemporary art in Vienna, will present her position within art world on all fronts of her activities and thread specifics of activities in Austria and Turkey.

Alexander Valchev (Bulgaria) – artist, winner of last years Photonic Moments award, granted by Month of Photography festival and Cultural City Network from Graz. Valchev is just concluding one moth residence in Graz, crowned with solo exhibition in Galerie Centrum Graz, and will present his artistic activities and his path towards the international artistic sphere.

Angelos Gavrias (Greece) – collaborating artist on actual group exhibition Photonic Moments will present his actual activities in the field of contemporary photography and orientation between German and Greek cultural space.

Katarina Radović (Serbia) – collaborating artist on actual group exhibition Photonic Moments will present her markedly international oriented activities, artistic approaches and situation on that field in Serbia.
