With the opening of Marko Lipuš’s solo exhibition Photocartoons in Photon Gallery – Centre for Contemporary Photography in Ljubljana and award giving ceremony for the best exhibition of Photonic Moments – Month of Photography 2010 this years festival is officially closed.

Prize of the festival, sponsored by EPSON and CCN Kulturvermittlung Steiermark from Graz, was awarded to Goran Bertok for the exhibition Red and Black that took place between 29 October and 14 November 2010 in Kibela Gallery, Kibla Multimedia Centre Maribor.

For the exhibition project Red and Black Goran Bertok presented his body of work from the last six years in the extensive spatial set-up. Overall installation in Kibela Gallery widely emphasized conceptual and formal relations between particular finished projects and works in process and also presented some entirely new art works by Goran Bertok who is generally renowned for dealing with the questions of perception of the human body and its physical death.

We kindly invite you to visit the remaining exhibitions, but above all – we would like to invite you to attend the new edition of PHOTONIC MOMENTS – Month of Photography festival 2012!

Photon Gallery is glad to announce the 5th Festival of contemporary photography – PHOTONIC MOMENTS – Month of Photography 2010
Festival’s opening: 21st October, 2010 at 8 PM– Mala Galerija / Cankarjev Dom Ljubljana

In October and November, different venues across Slovenia, and in particular Ljubljana will host new edition of the festival PHOTONIC MOMENTS – Month of Photography 2010 presenting a number of photo exhibitions and related events. First organised in Ljubljana in 2005, this year the Festival is for the first time biennial. Its objective is to promote, advance and present creative endeavours in the field of photography, both local as well as international, to broader public, with a special attention to contemporary art photography as an integral part of modern fine arts. The value of photography within the contemporary visual arts is ever-increasing which results in different perception of the photographic medium. In this view, the festival in particular wants to support original and innovative approaches based on original or artistic creative premises.

The Festival’s programme is focused on the presentations of photographic endeavours from the broader region of Central and South-eastern Europe, including the representatives of local venues that will have a special place within the Festival’s programme. The Festival’s official headquarters and information centre will be at Cankarjev Dom, Ljubljana, which will host the exhibition, the central related-events programme as well as the Festival’s opening. This year’s Festival’s edition will witness the participation of over 20 partner organisers, from public institutes to smaller galleries, initiatives and individuals who will contribute fragments to the programme of a month-and-a- half long Festival.

The Festival PHOTONIC MOMENTS – Month of Photography 2010 will feature the central group exhibition entitled Tension Field exploring the relevant tendencies in the field of contemporary photography in the region; the exhibition will also inaugurate the Festival’s events taking place at Cankarjev Dom. The Festival puts on display a number of projects by local and international partners, a total of about thirty. Special mention should be made of the retrospective exhibition of Lee Miller held at Jakopič Gallery, the review of work by a famous American photographer Jeffrey Silverthorne at Photon Gallery, as well as overview exhibitions of the Hungarian, Slovak and Serbian contemporary photography.

The opening week of the Festival will feature Forum – Talks on Contemporary Photography held at Cankarjev Dom, addressing the development of photographic creativity, from the club to gallery scene. This section of the Panel will be aimed at presentations of Tension Field project participants – the curators, artists, representatives of institutions, theoreticians and publicists. Traditionally, the special attention of Forum will be given to the presentation of publishers, discussions with the representatives of publishing houses and presentation of their magazines and publications.
