Nagrada festivala FOTONIČNI TRENUTKI za leto 2012 je pripadla grškemu avtorju VANGELISU GEORGASU

Nagrada je bila podeljena za najboljši portfolio v sklopu prve ljubljanske manifestacije Portfolio Review. Dobitniku nagrade je omogočena samostojna razstava v Galeriji Vžigalica v letu 2013.

Drugo mesto sta si z identičnim številom točk razdelila JURE KASTELIC (Slovenija) in FEDERICO SUTERA-SARDO (Italija).

Dobitnik nagrade projekta AFTERMATH. Changing Cultural Landscape, ki jo omogoča dolgoletni partner festivala CCN – Kulturvermittlung Steiermark iz Graza, bo podeljena in objavljena v prihodnjih dneh!

VANGELIS GEORGAS je nagrado za najboljši portfolio po mnenju mednarodne dvanajstčlanske komisije prejel za seriji No Such Thing As Real Orient in Athens – Economical Crisis.

Podobe projekta No Such Thing As a Real Orient predstavljajo osebno dokumentacijo, ki jo je avtor posnel na svojih potovanjih v Indijo, kjer je želel demistificirati romantične ideje o tem prostoru in njegovi reprezentaciji. Stvarnost tega prostora je predvsem hitro rastoče gospodarstvo, socialna neenakost in posledično revščina. Teoretična podlaga projekta temelji na proti-esencialističnem razumevanju Zahoda in Orienta kot ga je vpeljal Edward Said, ki je vztrajal, da pravi Orient, kakor tudi privilegij bližnje perspektive, pravzaprav ne obstajata.

Projekt v procesu Athens-Economic Crisis se ukvarja s posledicami ekonomske krize in njenim vplivom na družbeno in politično življenje v Atenah. Na način preizpraševanja klišejske fotoreporterske ideje reprezentacije krize, se je avtor osredotočil na atmosfero mesta, ki se je dodobra spremenila v preteklih 4 letih. Fotografski narativ je zgrajen okoli kontrasta med izoliranimi ljudmi v  mestu in prizorišči, ki so vzpostavila novo kolektivno identiteto.

PHOTONIC MOMENTS 2012 festival’s award goes to Greek photographer VANGELIS GEORGAS.

The prize was awarded for the best portfolio in frames of first Ljubljana’s Portfolio Review. The winner will be enabled solo exhibition in Vžigalica Gallery (Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana) in 2013.

With the identical number of votes the second place is shared between following photographers: JURE KASTELIC (Slovenia) and FEDERICO SUTERA-SARDO (Italy).

The winner of AFTERMATH. Changing Cultural Landscape project award, enabled by long year festival’s partner CCN – Kulturvermittlung Steiermark from Graz, will be awarded and announced in following days.

In the opinion of twelve-member commission VANGELIS GEORGAS received the award for his No Such Thing As Orient and Athens – Economical Crisis series of photographs.

The images of No Such Thing As a Real Orient are a personal documentary constructed after several trips to India since 2008. Artist tried to reconcile an excessively romantic idea about the place and its representation, with the realities of one of the fastest growing economies worldwide, and the consequences of social inequality and deep poverty for big parts of the population. The project is theoretically inspired by Edward Said’s anti-essentialist understanding of both “the West” and “the Orient”: He insisted that “there is no such thing as a real or true Orient” and that there is no necessary privilege of an “insider” perspective over an “outsider” one.

With the Athens-Economic Crisis project (in progress) the artist deals with the aftermath of the economic crisis and its socioeconomic and political consequences in Athens, Greece. Questioning stereotypical photojournalistic ideas about the representation of the crisis, he focuses on how the atmosphere of the city has changed during the last 3-4 years. His photographic narrative is built around the contrast between isolated people in the city, and venues where new collective identities are constructed.
