Z vizualno razkošnim in vsebinsko koherentnim ciklusom fotografij skuša umetnica poudariti skupne vidike odtujenosti in izkoreninjenosti, nenehnega občutka nerazumljenosti in želje po integraciji v novo okolje.

The Berlin Bhf. series of photographs by the Lucie Award-winning Hungarian photographer and artist Anna Tihanyi was inspired by her first-hand experience of living and working in Berlin. The highly fictionalised and staged scenes take place in the interiors of various buildings in Berlin and in Budapest, focusing on the emotions and relationships between different protagonists going through moments of (personal) transition.

The basic idea of the work is rooted in the artist’s own deeply personal and intimate concerns. Tihanyi perceives Berlin as an unstable and transitory place, a habitat of passengers, a temporary home, for her and for many people around her. With this visually appealing and conceptually coherent series of photographs the artist emphasises the aspects they have in common: rootlessness and alienation; the permanent feeling of being an outcast; and their desire to integrate into their new environment.

Probably the most recognisable feature in Tihanyi’s body of work is the exploration of female identity through staged surreal wonderlands. Her fundamental interest lies in the dialogue between photography and literature. Above all the texts accompanying the photographs are highly inspirational, often giving a cohesive atmosphere to the images instead of being a mere illustration of individual photographs.
